How Cyclic handles data

Written for students, parents, and teachers. Last updated when the app was built — update this date whenever the practice changes.

What we collect from students

A display name chosen by the student or teacher, a password, and their answers.

That is the complete list.

We do not collect email addresses, legal names, birthdates, phone numbers, home addresses, or photographs. There is nowhere in the system to put them. Students join with a one-time code from their teacher rather than by registering.

What we do with it

Answers and hint usage are shown to the student's own coach and teacher so they know what to teach next. Attendance and progress totals are used to measure whether the program is working.

What we never do

  • Show one student another student's scores, answers, or ranking
  • Run advertising, analytics, trackers, or session recording
  • Send student data to any third party
  • Sell anything to anyone

Who can see what

A student sees only their own work. A coach and the hosting teacher see the students in their own group. Nobody sees students in another school's group.

Deleting data

A teacher can remove a student at any time. A teacher or parent can ask for a student's data to be deleted entirely, and it will be removed within 30 days. All data for a group is deleted at the end of the school year unless the teacher asks us to keep it for the next one.

For teachers and parents

Cyclic is used in a classroom setting under a teacher's supervision, and it is designed so that no personal information about a child is collected in the first place. Questions go to the hosting teacher, who can reach the program coordinator.
